A complete overhaul of ShopSphere's e-commerce platform to improve user experience and boost conversion rates.
ShopSphere, a mid-market e-commerce retailer specializing in home goods and lifestyle products, came to KumoDevs with a critical problem. Their existing Shopify-based storefront had not been updated in over three years, and the gap between user expectations and their actual experience was costing them market share. Competitors with faster, more intuitive mobile experiences were pulling ahead. ShopSphere needed more than a cosmetic refresh — they needed a fundamental rethinking of how customers discovered products, navigated categories, and completed purchases. KumoDevs partnered with ShopSphere to rebuild the entire frontend experience from the ground up, with a relentless focus on mobile-first design, performance optimization, and conversion-driven UX patterns.
Outdated UI and poor mobile responsiveness were leading to high bounce rates and cart abandonment exceeding 70%.
Implemented a modern, mobile-first design with streamlined checkout process and personalized product recommendations.
KumoDevs deployed a three-phase approach. Phase one involved deep analytics review: we audited 12 months of session recordings, heatmaps, and funnel data to identify where users dropped off. Phase two was iterative prototyping — we wireframed and user-tested five different checkout flows in Figma, converging on a single-page checkout with real-time shipping estimates. Phase three was engineering: we extracted the frontend from Shopify's Liquid templates and rebuilt it as a standalone React application communicating with Shopify's Storefront API via Node.js middleware. This decoupled architecture allowed us to implement advanced features like instant search, predictive filtering, and personalised product carousels without being constrained by Shopify's native theming system.
Analysed 12 months of analytics data, conducted stakeholder interviews, and performed a competitive UX benchmark against the top five competitors in ShopSphere's vertical.
Created low-fidelity wireframes for 40+ screens, followed by high-fidelity Figma prototypes that were user-tested with 20 participants across desktop and mobile.
Decoupled the frontend from Shopify Liquid into a standalone React application powered by Node.js middleware, enabling faster iteration and richer interactivity.
Integrated Shopify Storefront API for real-time product, inventory, and order data, with webhook-driven cache invalidation to keep the storefront in sync.
Implemented code splitting, lazy loading, image optimisation with next-gen formats, and CDN caching to achieve sub-2-second load times on 3G connections.
Soft-launched to 10% of traffic for one week, monitored conversion metrics and error rates, then ramped to 100% with real-time dashboard monitoring.
“KumoDevs didn't just redesign our store — they redesigned how we think about e-commerce. The new platform has completely changed our trajectory as a business. Our team was sceptical about a full rebuild mid-year, but the results speak for themselves.”
Built a scalable frontend architecture with React and Node.js, integrated with Shopify API for real-time inventory updates and Tailwind CSS for rapid styling.
Integrate AI-driven product recommendations and expand to support multi-language functionality for global markets.
